Regd. No: 51/055/56 - Kathmandu, Nepal INTRODUCTION Academicians are unofficial goodwill ambassadors. Nepalese scholars regard Germany as one of the destination for excellent education. Consequently, many Nepalese have been to Germany to pursue their academic quest. Similarly, many German academicians have researched on Nepal and have spent considerable time here. This exchange has greatly nurtured the friendly relationship between the two countries. Still, it is felt that the total potential of such exchange is yet to be harnessed. It is because most of the scholars do not know each other and are working in isolation. United we could help the society and at the same time get help from fellow scholars in our own academic pursuit.
THE NEW ORGANIZATION From time to time we meet people, sharing the same background and having similar feelings of responsibility. However, due to unavailability of a permanent venue the contacts remain at personal level and gets weaker with passage of time. Each of us have wished for a common forum and a venue where one could meet like-minded people, a forum which would voice our feelings and an organization which would accept us as equal partners. Some time back a few of us decided that time has come to organize things in an officially recognized way, and SONGA was born. Now the opportunity is there for us to vent our feelings and at the same time, show our creativity and behave responsible.
THIS ADHOC COMMITTEE As the first step, an adhoc committee has been formed under the convenership of Dr Damodar Gajurel. Ms Roshani Karmacharya, Ms Rashila Pradhan, Mr Rajendra Adhikari, Mr Pramod Amatya, Mr Madhav Belbase, Mr Madhav Baral, Mr Rajendra Aryal, Dr Prakash Pradhan, Mr Ravindra Pun and Mr Sunil Poudyal have assumed the responsibility of other office bearers. This committee will be dissolved after the first general assembly, which in turn will be held as soon as there are more than 25 members. The committee meets every Saturday morning at 8:00 hours. All prospective SONGA members are encouraged to participate actively at the meetings.
OBJECTIVES SONGA is a non-profit, non-political organization having the following objectives:
MEMBERSHIP All Nepalese scholars who have studied or made researches for a minimum of one year at German universities are eligible for a full membership. German scholars or volunteers requiring to stay for more than half a year in Nepal too are equally eligible for a full membership of SONGA. Nepalese
students currently studying at German universities can apply for an
associate membership. Similarly, Nepalese scholars who have spent at
least a quarter year at German universities or educational centers for
training or researches qualify for the associate membership. The membership fee for full members is NRs 500. For associate members it is NRs 400.
ORGANIZATION The general assembly will convene once a year to review progress and to make planning for the coming year. Another important function of the general assembly is to elect the executive committee by secret voting. The executive committee will make decisions on the day-to-day activities of SONGA. The committee will consist of the following office bearers:
The official meeting of the executive committee will be held at least four times a year. This does not include several unofficial meetings, meetings of subcommittees and various interaction programs.
IMPEACHMENT If two third of SONGA members desire so, any of the office bearers may be discharged or the whole of the executive committee may be dismissed.
